Scary Thought

"I think any reasonable person watching American politics would come to the conclusion that a second Bush administration would in fact incorporate a more radicalized version of what we’ve seen in the first administration. The reason is that the constraint would be removed. At least now, they know they have to face an electorate. That restricts their movement somewhat. But those constraints are off if they win a second term. Their ideological extremism can have - will have - a field day." -- Robert B. Reich, courtesy Buzzflash

im still convinced we're fucked either way. but more blatantly fucked if bush wins. i mean, when bush wins. on the off chance that kerry blunders into it, i have a sneaking suspicion he's gonna tip-toe around maintaining and increasing large parts of all the bullshit implemented under bush

Agreed.

And don't forget the widespread expectation that Bush would govern from the center, given the fact that the 2000 election was essentially a tie. Everyone expected concessions to the Democrats, pointing to Bush's bipartisan style of governing by compromise in Texas (where the legislature was usually either split down the middle, or Democratic-leaning.)

Instead, upon Bush's Presidential inauguration, he immediately started governing as if he had a rock-solid conservative hard-right mandate. Which he didn't.

Bush's re-election would be a nightmare AND a disaster, and what's truly scary to me is how close the polls are now...despite all the shit he's pulled in the past 3 1/2 years.
